Arrival
Reaching Villa Lapland is already part of the journey: the road winds through forests, over quiet rivers, and into the wide open landscapes of the Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park. As you drive north, the horizon opens – mountains appear, snowfields stretch, and silence slowly takes over.
Villa Lapland lies at Rihmakuja 2, 99340 Raattama, a small and authentic village in the municipality of Kittilä. It is not a place you stumble upon by accident, but one you choose deliberately. The last kilometers lead you away from main roads into a world where nature speaks louder than traffic.
Distances and Travel Options
-
By plane: Nearest airports are Kittilä (70 km), Enontekiö (100 km), and Rovaniemi (280 km) – all with regular connections to Helsinki and seasonal flights from Europe. From there, a rental car is the most convenient way to continue.
-
By car: From Levi it takes about 1 hour; from Muonio about 35 minutes. Roads are well maintained year-round, even in deep winter. In winter we recommend considering AWD – though regular cars are usually sufficient.
Winter tires are mandatory in Finland from November to March. While “unstudded” winter tires are tolerated and often sufficient, the standard in Lapland is studded tires (spikes). Rental cars in the region are always equipped accordingly. -
By train & bus: The closest railway station is Rovaniemi (220 km). From there, bus connections lead north to Kittilä and further into the Pallas region.
-
By car from Helsinki: For those who wish to begin the journey already in the south, the drive from Helsinki to Raattama covers about 1,100 km – almost entirely through endless forests, lakes, and quiet villages. It is not a short drive, but a rare experience in itself: a ribbon of road unfolding through pure wilderness. Many guests choose to fly to Kittilä or Rovaniemi instead – yet for some, the long drive becomes part of the story.
-
By taxi from the airport: Regular taxi services are available without waiting time at Kittilä Airport. Transfer to Raattama is approx. €250.
Recommendation
We strongly suggest traveling by car. In Lapland, distances are vast and public transport is limited. Having your own car allows you to explore hidden corners of the national park, nearby lakes and the ski areas at your own rhythm.
